A One-day Training Event Teaching Documentation Best Practices in Technical Communication

On March 7th, LASTC participated in the annual MadCap Roadshow, which made one of its 23 North American stops in Orange County. As many technical communicators are aware, MadCap publishes one of the leading help authoring tools, Flare, which many consider to be a leading alternative to Adobe’s RoboHelp and FrameMaker.

MadCap Roadshow

The MadCap Roadshow is ideal for new, prospecting, and existing users.  It is a special five-session event on topics critical for today’s technical writers. Led by Mike Hamilton, VP of Product Evangelism, this full day workshop covered topics including maximizing content reuse, multi-channel publishing, advanced CSS techniques, and even a preview of the latest release, Flare 8. Mike is also the MadCap co-founder, and has over ten years of experience in training, technical communication, multimedia development, and software development. Prior to joining MadCap Software, Mike served as the Product Manager for Macromedia’s award-winning RoboHelp product line.

As a proud STC partner, MadCap invited local chapter representatives to attend the event. This year, the Los Angeles and Orange County chapters joined forces in staffing the STC booth where many roadshow attendees stopped by to learn more about membership opportunities and upcoming events. Pamphlets, t-shirts, pens, and other merchandise were provided to current and prospective members.

The MadCap Roadshow is an excellent learning and networking opportunity for all technical communicators, and we highly recommend attending an upcoming stop this year. More information on the roadshow, including dates and specific topics, can be found at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/events/roadshow.aspx.
